The Mission
Restoring nature’s balance. Reconnecting people and communities with the natural world.
The Challenge: The 70 / 20 / 10 Reality
For decades, industrial agriculture and the global food supply chain have pushed Britain’s natural ecosystems to the brink. Today, our land is split into a stark reality:
-
70% Agriculture & Industrial Farmland: Characterised by synthetic chemical inputs, heavy tillage, and severe habitat loss.
-
20% Dedicated Nature & Forestry: Bogs, heathlands, rivers, and woods—yet ancient native woodland makes up just 2.5% of our country.
-
10% Human Development & Infrastructure: All our towns, cities, homes, roads, and commercial buildings combined.
The ecological crisis isn't driven by concrete or urban housing—it is taking place across the chemical-heavy, degraded 70% of farmland. We exist to rescue this land, retire it from industrial production, and give nature the room to self-heal.
Rewilding Us: Reconnecting Communities Through Active Land Stewardship
At the core of our philosophy is Rewilding Us—our wild food enterprise and educational platform dedicated to breaking people out of modern industrial disconnect and re-anchoring them in the natural world. Through Rewilding Us, we teach people how to live in deep respect and harmony with the environment through active, year-round stewardship:
-
Ecological Harvesting & Foraging: From coastal seaweed gathering and winter roots to spring wild greens and autumn mushroom hunting, we teach people how to forage respectfully, safely, and in rhythm with nature across all twelve months.
-
Working in Synergy with the Environment: We actively target Invasive Non-Native Species (INNS)—such as Japanese knotweed shoots and Himalayan balsam—turning ecological threats into nutrient-dense food while directly helping native biodiversity recover.
-
Harvesting from Abundance: We focus exclusively on natural surpluses, ensuring that human interaction enhances the ecosystem rather than stressing it.
-
Immersive Nature Education: A comprehensive 12-month program designed to build land literacy, ecological resilience, and a deep understanding of natural systems outside of failing industrial food networks.
-
Reconnecting Communities: Bringing local families, volunteers, and groups onto the land to foster outdoor wellbeing, learn traditional land skills, and rebuild a genuine relationship with wild spaces.
The Alternative: Respecting Nature & Food Security
The modern industrial food complex carries a staggering environmental footprint—relying on global supply chains, chemical pesticides, massive plastic waste, and endless food miles. Wild food offers a radical, zero-waste alternative grounded in profound respect for the Earth:
Wild food offers a radical, zero-waste alternative grounded in profound respect for the Earth:
-
Zero Waste, Zero Plastics, Zero Chemicals: True wild food requires no packaging, no synthetic inputs, no factory processing, and zero food miles. It goes directly from clean, restored landscapes to the table.
-
Nature Always Eats First: We forage with humility and deep respect for the ecosystem. We only harvest true wild surplus from abundant locations, ensuring wildlife always takes precedence and ecosystem integrity comes first.
-
Wild Food Relief for Local Communities: The nutrient-dense, zero-waste wild surplus we gather—wild herbs, native fruits, nuts, seaweeds, and natural honeys—is distributed directly to local food banks and families facing food poverty.
-
Restoring Native Pollinators: Guided by our in-house beekeeper across 30+ active hives, we place hives on forage-rich land to reintroduce the native British black bee, restoring natural pollination across species-rich habitats.
Our 4-Step Path to Restoration
1. Land Transition
We rescue degraded farmland—permanently pulling it out of industrial production so the soil can finally rest, breathe and return to its natural state.
2. Habitat Recovery
We rejuvenate tired soils, manage invasive species, and welcome back missing wild flora and fauna—including reintroducing native British black bees—giving nature the power to self-heal.
3. Sustainable Wild Food
Once the land achieves self-sustaining health, we sustainably share resources with nature year-round. We harvest gently and in balance—targeting abundant species and invasive non-natives so that nature always eats first.
4. Coexistence
For the first time in over 400 years, we are learning to live like our ancestors did by coexisting, co-regulating, and actively stewarding the land so humans and nature flourish together once again.
Leadership & Technical Expertise
"Restoring nature at scale requires more than good intentions—it demands deep agronomic science, rigorous ecological auditing and a lifetime of hands-on land stewardship."
Christopher Holdham — Founder & Director
Wilder Earth | Rewilding Us
Christopher brings over 25 years of practical experience in large-scale land management, soil science, and ecological restoration. Formally qualified in Sportsturf Science, Agronomy, and Ecology, he integrated habitat care and soil biology across premier UK estates spanning hundreds of acres—including the exclusive Beaverbrook Estate, The Wisley, and Hickstead International Showground.
His career provides a deep scientific grounding in sward management, soil microbiology, and process-based ecosystem restoration. As the founder of Wilder Earth, Christopher combines practical land stewardship with social and environmental impact—personally conducting baseline UKHab surveys, River Condition Assessments, and Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans backed by freehold land acquisition and Conservation Covenants.
